Financial Support and Expenses
Students from outside California are automatically considered for nonresident tuition grants. If qualified, these students are normally assured grants for a maximum of one academic year. After this period, U.S. citizens and permanent residents normally are eligible to become California residents who are no longer required to pay nonresident tuition.
Numerous Graduate Fellowships are available through the Biochemistry Department. Fellowships that are normally available include the following: Chancellor's Distinguished Fellowship, Eugene Cota-Robles Award, Graduate Opportunity Fellowships, and Biochemistry Department Fellowships. Nominees will be selected from amongst the applicants for the graduate program. Applications should be submitted by early January for consideration for most of these fellowships to begin the following fall. Additional details regarding the fellowship competition and stipend levels are provided with the application materials.
All students pay normal registration fees on a quarterly basis. Nonresident tuition fees must also be paid quarterly by those not offered tuition grants. Since fees and tuition levels change periodically, information about their current levels is provided separately.
